SUPPORT DOES NOT HAVE TO END AFTER TRAGEDY
A fatal road accident doesn’t only take a life—it can also take away the financial support that keeps a family going. That’s where a Loss of Support Claim against the Road Accident Fund (RAF) comes in.
What is a Loss of Support Claim?
A loss of support claim may be brought by qualifying dependants who suffer financial loss following the death of a breadwinner in a motor vehicle accident. Where the death was caused by the negligence or wrongful conduct of the driver or owner of the insured vehicle, and the deceased had a legal duty to support the claimant, the Road Accident Fund (RAF) may compensate the dependants for their financial loss.
Who may qualify?
• A surviving spouse or qualifying life partner
• Minor children
• Other dependants who can prove that the deceased had a legal duty to support them
Why does it matter?
A successful claim can help provide financial stability during an incredibly difficult time, assisting families with their ongoing living expenses and their future needs.
Handled properly, the claim should present a clear narrative: who depended on the deceased, what support was provided, what has been lost, and why the RAF is liable.
At Goldberg & De Villiers Inc, we understand that these claims are about more than compensation—they’re about protecting the future of those left behind. We are committed to guiding families through this process.
